Dad is Amazing!

We took dad up to the church today to walk, their chapel was built so that you can walk completely around the outside of the chapel and cultural hall, no need to turn around. So it works great to have dad walk there. We got him down the stairs in their home with his motorized chair, but once we got him to the bottom, he walked out to the car, got in, and I asked if I should go back inside and get dad's wheelchair and dad said no. So, Lisa and I headed off to the chapel with him. We got him out of the car and he walked down the stairs and into the church, and walked all the way around once, took a break for a minute and went around again, walked outside, up the stairs, and to the car(so he walked for a total of about 40 minutes.) As you can see in the video, we were only holding onto his belt, just in case he stumbled, but pretty much other than that, he was on his own! When we got back home, his physical therapist came and he rode his bike for another 10 minutes. She also got some movement in his foot, flexing it and straightening it, it wasn't strong, but he's got some movement! When he was talking with the physical therapist, he was speaking in full sentences with her, remembering things from his past, and only got stuck on two words and with a little help, said them as well. We were concerned that he might not progress as well at home with all of us, but he is doing amazing!
Several family members were over visiting with dad and mom last night and reminiscing about old times. They were talking about an experience that had happened while they were living in Germany that was a bit scary on some snowy roads. When they asked dad if he remembered that particular experience, he said with a smile " I choose not to remember it".

  2. You're doing awesome President! It looks like you have made quite a bit of progress. I am glad you were able to be discharged from the hospital in time to celebrate Christmas at home with your family. You are an inspiration to all of us! Keep up the great work. Happy New Year!
